The Most Important Factor To Consider When Choosing A Repellent Insect Spray

Repellent insect sprays and creams are necessary in certain conditions to prevent your skin from being bitten. These products are made from a variety of different materials, and can be used alone or in conjunction with other systems of protection such as mosquito nets. As these insect bites can carry disease as well as cause discomfort and pain, it is important to avoid them. Deciding which of the products to use is not necessarily easy if you have had no experience of going into tropical climates and coping with the potential dangers.

All individuals are different, and react to different products, especially chemicals, in a unique way. What is right for one person will be wrong for someone else, so there will be a certain amount of trial and error involved in finding the right product. There is also the consideration of whether you will be traveling alone, or with other members of your family. If you are traveling with children, especially young children, you will need to be careful to watch that there are no skin reactions to the products you decide to use.

Another factor in finding the best repellent insect solution for you is your views on the use of harsh chemicals. There is no doubt that every chemical insect repellent does react with the skin in some way, and that there are inevitable side effects to prolonged use. Natural insect repellent can and does do the job without as much risk to the skin. The problem is, that the strength of the natural products does not match the strength of the strong chemical based solutions. In mosquito infested area where the use of a net is impractical, it is recommended that you use the strongest chemical based repellent insect spray you can find.

If you are not in an area where you expect to be facing an extreme risk of being bitten, and you are happy to apply a solution a lot more often, then a natural solution does cut down the risk of the skin becoming inflamed or irritated as a result of excessive application of the solution. Natural solutions need to be applied at least twice as often as the most effective synthetics, and realistically more often than that. A new application ever half an hour should be enough to provide adequate protection.

As well as treating skin, it is possible to get insect repellent chemicals for clothing and bedding. These are different chemicals, and they will obviously come in to contact with the skin if they are used on clothing which is next to the body, but they will not be as serious a cause for concern as chemicals which are applied to the body directly. To have the greatest effect, they will still need to be used in conjunction with a conventional insect repellent.
